With the rapid development of information and technology, China's shipping industry is also experiencing an important period of change in the transition development towards intelligence and wisdom. Smart shipping is a comprehensive application of cloud computing, big data, Internet of Things, sensors and other technologies guided by the construction of big data center. It is a service system to promote cross cross-sectoral cooperation, cross-regional information resource integration, improve transportation efficiency and reduce transportation costs. Smart shipping is an innovative application of relevant advanced concepts and high technology in the shipping industry generated in the construction of smart society. However, the development of smart shipping is still in the primary stage, and there is still a lack of relevant literature in the field of smart shipping. In order to understand and develop smart shipping, this paper reviewed and summarized smart shipping based on the existing literature. The paper introduced the connotation of smart shipping, the background of its creation and the current situation of its development at China and abroad, outlined the different framework systems of smart shipping from five elements of smart shipping: smart ships, smart ports, smart shipping insurance, smart supervision and smart services, summarized several key technologies in smart shipping and gave examples of excellent cases of successful application of smart shipping at China and abroad. Combined with the current research status of smart shipping, this paper put forward the shortcomings and challenges of different elements, and looked forward to the future development and research direction of smart shipping.
